Surviving the Holidays
The holiday season is in full swing at ChalkDust CrossFit. With Thanksgiving behind us, it's time to focus on what lay ahead during the busiest time of the year. Here are some tips for surviving the holiday season from ChalkDust CrossFit.
1. Reduce chaos. Sometimes simplicity is best. Be realistic in expectations of yourself and others this time of year. Make lists of what you need to get done and check them off one at a time. RSVP. And honestly, don't over-schedule yourself during an already busy time.
2. Keep your routine. Don't skip your regular workouts and visits to ChalkDust CrossFit. Also, do not adopt the mindset that you can make-up for your holiday eating choices by ramping up your workouts. Keeping a routine this time of year helps us avoid the slippery slope of getting out of our normal habits. It's a well known fact that working out releases these tiny little creatures called endorphins that reduce stress and make us feel better.
3. Boost your immune system. Par for the course, holiday season goes hand in hand with cold and flu season. There are some simple steps you can follow to naturally boost your immune system. While it is easy to eat poorly during this time of year, ensure your diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables. Honey, garlic, citrus fruit and sweet potatoes are great natural immune boosters. Sleep is equally important - make sure you get plenty of it.
4. Use this time of the year for self-growth. Practice patience, acceptance and self-control. Remember it is a busy time for everyone and try and smile through the long lines at the grocery store. Be patient with children and family members and preserve the memories you are making. Exercise self-control in your eating choices and remember that you have choices. You are in control and you decide if that extra dessert is worth it. If you decide to splurge, don't wallow in guilt over the choice you made.
