What is the CrossFit Open?

The 2015 CrossFit Open is upon us. Many of you may have overheard talk of this competition at the gym.  "What is the CrossFit Open," you ask?  The CrossFit Open is five weeks of five different workouts (that are scaleable) and open to every athlete in the world.  Yes, the CrossFit Open is how you qualify for the 2015 CrossFit Games, which determines the fittest man and woman in the world. Think you've got a shot?  Well okay, probably not, but every athlete at ChalkDust CrossFit should at least sign up for the Open and here's why . . .

Competition brings out the best in all of us. We push ourselves day in and day out at ChalkDust, but during the Open, with the help of our members, we might just push a little harder.  We guarantee you are capable of more than you think.  You will learn something new about yourself and something new about CrossFit during the Open, too.  The Open means something slightly different to each and everyone of us.  There are people out there gunning for the Regional competition, but for the majority of us here at ChalkDust, the Open will be our first competition.  It will be fun to get a taste for what a CrossFit Competitions are like in your own gym, surrounded by your fellow members.  There is no better way to get your feet wet.  We promise at least once during the open you will do something AMAZING!

So will the Open workouts be hard?  It's CrossFit, so yes, the Open workouts will suck!  Remember though, that the workouts will all be scalable and the coaching staff and members here at ChalkDust will get you through.  There is no shame in trying.  Maybe you have to scale weights or movements, but in the end, you'll be glad you did each workout.  We got a little taste of this last week as we repeated the 2014 Open workouts.  Many of you struggled, but all of you did it.

The Open workouts are a good way to track your progress throughout the year. They are a good measure of overall fitness. These workouts will pop up again and again in one form or another throughout the year. You will be thrilled with the progress you continue to make.

So how do you get signed up for the Open?  It's really simple.  Just go to www.crossfitgames.com, create a login and profile and register!

ChalkDust CrossFit will have Open workout times during the five weeks period. This is a great time to show your family and friends what you have been up to and have them come cheer you on.  We are a team, a community and we need your support! So Chalk up and get ready for the the 2015 CrossFit Open.
