Most people select a gym based on the location, the quality of equipment, the cleanliness and the overall feel. So, it's a good thing ChalkDust CrossFit has all these things going! That said, the most important thing in any gym is not the physical surroundings, it's the sense of community and the people who work there that make it matter most. This is what will keep you at a gym. And who you choose to train with is the single most important decision for your personal fitness.
It's really hard to find a trainer who makes you feel comfortable enough to expose your biggest flaws. Many trainers tend to get in your face, which can make you feel less confident about your abilities. But a "personal trainer" is just that - a personal guide for helping you reach your personal fitness goals. Your personal trainer is your reason to show up everyday!
So, how do you select a trainer? It's a personal decision but there are a few key overall qualities to consider:
Patience - This is imperative in the CrossFit world. The basic premise of CrossFit is how you move your body and most of us do not know how to do this correctly. CrossFit involves a lot of moves that need to be learned or relearned with correct technique and a little patience goes a long way. Anyone can do CrossFit with just a little coaching and a lot of patience.
Communication - Getting feed back and follow-up is key. And it is key at a personal level. Understanding your fitness goals and how you would like to achieve them is imperative for your success.
Knowledge - Invaluable in the CrossFit world. Knowing the movements, kinesiology and nutrition are all key components to building a successful relationship with your trainer.
